(WWJ) Plymouth Township police say a dangerous dog that had been on the run since Saturday morning when it and two other dogs attacked a jogger has been caught.
Warning the public about a "dangerous dog" on the loose, police had been looking for the pit bull in several neighborhoods over the past three days.
Police said the pit bull and two Cane Corsos attacked a jogger who was running along Canton Center Rd., at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Police responded to a 911 call to find the jogger on the ground. When officers approached they were confronted by the dogs, one officer fired a shot, and the dogs fled, police said.
The jogger was treated on the scene, taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was last reported in stable condition.
Police said one of the Cane Corsos was quickly found, and was taken to the Huron Valley Humane Society to be quarantined. The other Cane Corso was later found wounded and had to be put down, officials said.
Plymouth Police Chief James Knittel said the third dog was found Tuesday morning, near a gas station on Ann Arbor Rd.
"We put several notices out. Neighbors called and said that they saw the dog, and then our officers came upon the dog," the chief told WWJ's Pat Vitale. "The dog did charge at our officers, and our officers were forced to use their firearms. The dog ran from that location and we were able to capture the dog safely underneath a vehicle, right at the Super Station."
"No officers were injured," he said, "but the dog did sustain some injuries."
The dog was then taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment, Knittel said.
Knittel said all three dogs were kept in the same home. At least one dog owner has been identified, the chief said, but his or her name has not been released.
There's no word yet on any criminal charges, as the investigation continues.
"We're work with the prosecutor's office, we'll prepare the case. We're allow them to review the case and make a determination on if and who will be charged," the chief said.
Knittel added that both surviving dogs will remain in quarantine as physical evidence.
