NOVI, Mich. (WWJ) -- A boil water advisory that was in effect for residents of Novi, Walled Lake and Commerce Township since Sunday has been lifted.
City officials said the problem stemmed from a Great Lakes Water Authority water main break in neighboring Farmington Hills, in the area of 14 Mile Rd. and Drake.

Officials told more than 70,000 people they should boil any tap water before drinking it or using it to cook or brush teeth. If possible, the CDC recommends using bottled water instead during these situations.
In an update Wednesday, officials said water samples taken over the past two days came back negative, showing the water is safe to drink.
West Bloomfield police shared video of the main break late Sunday night, but said there was not a boil water advisory for residents in the township.
It was was not exactly clear what led to the water main break. Repairs are ongoing.
