WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - A Farmington Hills man is dead following a crash between motorcycle and two vehicles on I-96 in Wayne County on Tuesday evening.

Michigan State Police said troopers closed a portion of eastbound I-96 in Wayne County at West Grand Boulevard around 9:15 p.m. on March 12 as they investigated the wreck.

According to troopers, a 23-year-old male motorcyclist from Farmington Hills was allegedly speeding when he slammed into the back of a Ford Fusion in the right lane.

"The driver of the Fusion lost control, struck the embankment, and rolled over," MSP stated. "The motorcycle skidded east bound and the rider became separated from the motorcycle."

The young man was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the initial wreck, a Chevy Bolt that was also traveling eastbound hit the Ford Fusion and flipped.

The Chevy driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, troopers added.

The section of freeway remained closed for a time on Tuesday night with authorities urging drivers to avoid the area.

The freeway has since reopened and the family of the Farmington Hills man was notified of the incident.

"This risky driving behavior is even worse on a motorcycle," he said. "As the riding season approaches we are urging motorcycle drivers to slow down and drive safely."
