DEARBORN (WWJ) –- Dearborn Fire Chief Joseph Murray has been arraigned on charges two months after he was arrested for allegedly driving drunk in Dearborn Heights.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Wednesday filed two counts of operating while intoxicated (OWI) against Murray in connection with his August arrest.
He turned himself in on Friday and was released on a $5,000 bond, with the condition that he does not drink alcohol, according to prosecutors.
Authorities said Murray, 44, was pulled over around 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 29 after officers spotted him speeding in the area of Telegraph Rd. at Annapolis. Previous reports say Murray was going about 15 mph over the speed limit and "weaving" on the road.
He was pulled over about four blocks away and arrested. He allegedly refused a breathalyzer test at the time of the traffic stop.
Murray, who has spent more than a decade as the city's fire chief, was immediately placed on leave following his arrest. He returned to work on Monday after two months away from the job.
His next court date is unknown.
