DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) A Dearborn Heights woman is being held on a half a million dollar bond for allegedly shooting her boyfriend in the neck.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Leah Renee Johnson, 30, for shooting her boyfriend, 41, at their home on Colgate Street near Telegraph and Annapolis.

According to a press release from Dearborn Heights Police, their officers were dispatched to the home around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday (5/1) for a reported shooting. Officers found the victim in the bedroom with a gunshot wound to his neck. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Officers concluded through the investigation that the couple had an "alleged verbal altercation" which escalated with Johnson firing a handgun, striking the victim in the neck.

She was arraigned Friday at Dearborn Heights 20th District Court on charges of Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm. She received a $500,000 bond, and must wear a tether if its posted.

"Relationship issues continue to plague our community with Aggravated Assault, Stalking, and Assault & Battery occupying the top tier of criminal activity in Dearborn Heights," Dearborn Heights Police Chief Jarrod Hart said.

He said he's "proud of all (his) staff" and "actively working to find preventative programs such as juvenile court, mediation referrals and streaming such cases with (their) 20th District Court to provide faster intervention and improved victim services."

Chief Hart added: "I also offer my thoughts and prayers to the shooting victim and his loved ones in this incident, as they continue to cope with the realities of this tragic incident".

The victim's name has not been released. No word on his condition.
