DEARBORN (WWJ) -- A Dearborn man could spend the rest of his life in prison after it's alleged he stabbed his own mother to death last Sunday.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Tuesday announced she has charged 36-year-old Abrahim Hassan Alfagieh with first-degree premeditated murder in the death of 70-year-old Jamila Alwan, also of Dearborn.

At around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, Dearborn police responded to a home in the 7800 block of Reuter Street, south of Tireman, on a report of a stabbing.

In an upstairs bedroom, officers found Alwan suffering from a stab wound to the neck. EMS arrived, and Alwan was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to prosecutors, it's alleged that Alfagieh stabbed his mother to death with a knife, killing her, before calling 911.

Alfagieh was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in 19th District Court and was remanded to jail without bond.

He will be back in court for a probable cause conference scheduled for Dec. 23, to be followed by a preliminary examination set for Dec. 30.

Authorities did not say what may have led the defendant to attack his mom.

Alfagieh faces life in prison without parole if he's convicted as charged.
