DEARBORN (WWJ) A Dearborn man, accused of assaulting his wife before leading police on a chase involving a semi-truck, was charged.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Ali Ahmed Zbib, 55, with Domestic Violence, Third Degree Fleeing and Alluding and Malicious Destruction of Police and Fire Property.
According to prosecutors; Dearborn Police responded to a home on Argyle, in the area of Michigan Avenue and Schaefer, on Saturday, June 7 at 5:45 a.m. Police said he allegedly assaulted his 42-year-old wife before running away from the scene. He then hopped in a semi-truck in a nearby parking lot on Michigan Avenue-- about a block away from his home.
"When officers approached the vehicle, it is further alleged that the defendant reversed the truck before pulling forward, striking the officers’ vehicle, and fleeing the scene," prosecutors said in a press release.
The police continued to pursue him to Taylor and terminated the pursuit for safety reasons in the area of Telegraph and Champaign-- about 10 miles away from the starting point, according to prosecutors.
Zbib was arrested on Monday, June 9.
He was arraigned Wednesday, June 11, in the 19th District Court and given a $100,000 dollar cash/surety bond. He is due back in court on June 18 for a Probable Cause Conference.
