(WWJ) — A young man from Dearborn has died following a crash on the Southfield Freeway on Detroit’s west side Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 1 p.m. on northbound M-39 near Plymouth Road and left the freeway closed for a little more than an hour.
Witnesses told Michigan State Police investigators the 19-year-old Dearborn man was driving “at a high rate of speed” and lost control of his car and rolled over.
When troopers arrived on-scene, they saw the car on its side with the driver partially ejected and trapped inside, MSP officials said.
The driver was extricated from the car and rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“This is another preventable crash with a serious injury.” MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said on X. “We continue to see these same risky dangerous driving behaviors leading to serious injuries and fatalities on our roadways. We continue to remind drivers to drive the speed limit, limit distractions and do not drive impaired.”
The driver’s name has not been released and the investigation remains ongoing.
