Dearborn Police: Suspect in custody after elderly man was found murdered inside his home

Authorities said they have a suspect in custody in connection with the death of a 78-year-old man who police said was murdered inside his home Friday morning.

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Authorities said they have a suspect in custody in connection with the death of a 78-year-old man who police said was murdered inside his home Friday morning.

The suspect -- whose name has not been released -- is 31-years-old. Police said additional details will be released as they become available.

The Dearborn Police Department said officers were called to medically assist a man at his residence on Indiana Street, near Wyoming and Warren, at 9 a.m. Friday morning.

Police arrived to find the 78-year-old man deceased. Crime scene investigators and detectives responded to the home and their investigation so far determined the homicide was not random.

Police were able to detain the suspect-in-question and said there is currently no threat to the community at this time.

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin offered his condolences to the victim's family in a public statement and told the community that police are still continuing to investigate the crime.

“This loss of life is tragic and on behalf of the Dearborn Police Department, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim," Shahin said. "We are investigating to provide the answers this individual's family and loved ones need and deserve.”
