ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - The death of a maintenance worker whose body was found in the boiler room of an Ann Arbor hotel on Monday has been blamed on carbon monoxide poisoning, authorities concluded.

The Ann Arbor Fire Department said on social media that the worker was discovered dead at the Victory Inn on Washtenaw Avenue around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 28.

Shift 1, Engine 1-4, Ladder 1-5 and Batt Chief 1-1 all responded to the scene which officials described as a "a carbon monoxide incident."

Fire crews determined carbon monoxide levels in excess of 500 parts per million in the boiler room which the deceased man was located. DTE was notified and shut off gas to the boiler.

"Firefighters conducted air monitoring and ventilated the building," the fire department said. "City Building Dept. posted the building as unsafe to occupy until repairs can be made."

The Ann Arbor Police Department and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration have launched an investigation into the incident while hotel management works to relocate guests from the building.
