Deer baiting is banned, again, across the entire Lower Peninsula as firearm season begins — Is this the right thing for Michigan?

(WWJ) – Bright and early Wednesday morning thousands of hunters across the state of Michigan will wake up and head out to their deer blinds for the opening day of firearm season.

Once again the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has banned baiting across the Lower Peninsula in hopes of curbing cases of the lethal Chronic Wasting Disease in the state’s deer population.

While wildlife experts say it’s important to keep the disease from spreading, WWJ’s Brian Fisher learns on this Daily J podcast why some hunters are pushing back on the baiting ban.
