BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- Yet another decades-old independent movie theater is being razed in Metro Detroit.
Demolition began this week on the former Maple Theater property in Bloomfield Township.
The site is located on the corner of West Maple and Telegraph roads, and served as a local institution to Metro Detroit movie lovers for over 40 years
The 720-seat theater has been sitting vacant since closing its doors in February of this year, joining the ranks of other local theaters that fell victim to the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
WWJ’s Charlie Langton was live at the scene Tuesday morning, and reports that there are currently no plans to rebuild anything on the site at this time.
The demolition of the Maple Theater follows the razing of Royal Oak’s Main Art Theatre in July 2022, despite public outcry. Meanwhile, the future of Midtown's Cinema Detroit remains uncertain.
