Oakland County deputies chase down and then shoot, kill man sought for questioning in Pontiac shooting

PONTIAC (WWJ) -- An investigation underway after a police chase and officer-involved shooting in Pontiac.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the incident started at around 9 p.m. Wednesday when deputies on patrol spotted a sliver car believed to have been involved in a previous incident in which shots were fired at the Carriage Circle Apartments last weekend.

Deputies pulled the driver over, but when they approached to question him, they said he sped away and led them on a chase.

Deputies were able to stop the fleeing vehicle at Westway and Benson St. using a PIT Maneuver, officials said. That's when suspect got out of the car and abruptly turned toward the deputies "with a two-handed posture," according to the sheriff's office.

The deputies opened fire at that time, striking the suspect, identified a 33-year-old man.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken by EMS to a local hospital, where he died.

His name has not been released.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit (S.I.U.).
