Deputies locate Jeep in connection to hit-and-run crash that killed Ypsilanti woman in Washtenaw County, but no arrests made

SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Deputies in Washtenaw County say they've tracked down a white Jeep Grand Cherokee allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash that left one pedestrian dead over the weekend -- but no one was taken into custody.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said they are continuing to investigate after they found the SUV in Superior Township on Wednesday night, three days after the deadly crash.

While a person allegedly involved has been identified, no arrests were made.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to the scene of a crash involving a pedestrian that was stuck and killed off Prospect Rd. and Park Ln. in Superior Township around 8:20 a.m. on Jan. 21.

When deputies arrived, they discovered a 53-year-old Ypsilanti woman had died.

Based off their preliminary investigation, the victim had been walking along Prospect Road sometime in the night and was struck by a vehicle. The driver did not stop at the scene and took off in the direction of Geddes Road.

Parts of the suspect vehicle were recovered at the scene, which were identified as belonging to a white 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Deputies turned to the public for help in locating the SUV, which was said to have damage to the front passenger side of the hood, grill and quarter panel area.

In a 10:40 p.m. update on Jan. 24, deputies announced on X that the vehicle had been found.

"We thank everyone who shared our post, helped spread the word, and who provided tips," the sheriff's office said.
