FERNDALE (WWJ) - There's a new spot in Ferndale where Metro Detroiters can grab their next coffee fix -- and the opening celebrations are one you may not want to miss.
Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters, a Michigan-based company, is opening their new company headquarters and flagship café location at 927 Hilton Road, south of Nine Mile.
The grand opening festivities will kick off at 2 p.m. with a public coffee cupping at the Ferndale Cafe. The celebrations will continue throughout the day with a ribbon cutting with the City of Ferndale, a latte “art throwdown,” cake cutting and, after the store closes, an evening party.
“This is an important milestone in our company’s growth, as we also mark our 14th Anniversary, thanks to both our talented leadership team and staff, as well as our wonderful customers,” said Dessert Oasis President Nathan Hamood.
“Ferndale is an outstanding city and business community that fosters entrepreneurial companies like ours, with its creativity, ethos and community focus," Hamood continued. "While this will be a more centrally located headquarters for us to support future growth, our goal in Ferndale is to be the best neighbor and community member we can be. We also want to thank our event sponsors.”
The full schedule of Grand Opening Celebration events includes:
2:00 p.m. -- Public coffee cupping.
5:30 p.m. -- Ribbon cutting with the City of Ferndale.
6:00 p.m. -- Cake cutting
8:00 p.m. -- Latte art throwdown (Sign up begins at 7 p.m.)
Over $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded throughout the event, sponsored by Pacific Foods, Slayer Espresso and Roast Magazine. Other event sponsors include Hario, Visions Espresso, Eight Ounce Coffee Supply, Created Co., Esthetics by Jenn (local esthetics business in Ferndale), North Peak and Jolly Pumpkin.
The newest shop will be DOSCR's fourth location after cafes in Rochester, Detroit, and Royal Oak. Hamood said it's been the purpose of his company to proved a gathering place for the community -- along with fresh baked goods, live music and roasted craft coffee.
“We believe growth of the company should only serve the purpose of bettering what we do as a company, achieving the best possible products and customer service, while providing opportunities for our people to grow their careers in coffee,” Hamood said.
