Detroit apartment fire being investigated as possible firebombing, residents evacuated safely

DETROIT (WWJ) -- An early morning apartment fire on Detroit's east side has been deemed suspicious.

Flames engulfed the building at Iroquois St. and Medbury Ave., near Gratiot Ave. and south of I-94, at around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Reporting from the scene, WWJ's Charlie Langton said arson investigators were called in to look into what may have been a "firebombing" — but no suspects have been named or described.

All of the residents were able to get out safely, and there were no injuries reported.

Four units — two occupied, and two unoccupied — were damaged in the fire.

Detroit Fire Department officials said the investigation is ongoing.
