DETROIT (WWJ) -- A early morning fire on Detroit’s west side has left several residents without a home during the biggest storm of the season.
Firefighters rushed to the scene around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Riverview Apartments near Telegraph and I-96, where flames were coming out of about 10 windows.
Detroit Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell tells WWJ's Charlie Langton that efforts to put out of the flames were hampered by cars that were parked in front of fire hydrants outside of the complex.
While some moved their cars, others had to be towed and could face fines.
One resident suffered minor injuries after jumping out of a window to safety, while several others -- including children -- did the same without incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
