“Smash and Grab” robbery attempt leaves giant hole in Detroit Dollar Tree [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) -- An apparent “smash and grab” in southwest Detroit left a giant hole in the side of a Dollar Tree.

WWJ’s Charlie Langton was on the scene early Monday morning as police gathered outside the store on Vernor Highway to investigate.

A semi-truck that was discovered nearby was towed by police, and is believed to have been involved in the break-in.

Detroit police are also reportedly speculating whether or not the thieves actually intended to rob a nearby Footlocker, which is located in the same strip mall as the Dollar Tree on the 1600 block of Vernor.

There have been no arrests made in the case as the investigation continues.
