Upon arrival on scene, the troopers said they observed an occupant in the car who was unconscious and having trouble breathing.

In order to remove the driver from the vehicle, the fire department had to arrive on scene to do so.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver was driving recklessly without lights on, lost control, hit a concrete barrier and then a semi-truck. Police also believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

According to officials, the semi-truck continued after the crash and hasn't been identified.

The driver is currently hospitalized with critical injuries. Their identity has not been revealed.

The investigation is continuing.
