Detroit felon sentenced to 8 years in prison for shootings targeting girlfriend, including one where 30 shots were fired 'indiscriminately'

DETROIT (WWJ) – A convicted felon from Detroit is going back to prison for his involvement in a pair of 2021 shootings targeting his girlfriend, including one where he fired more than 30 rounds indiscriminately.

Jason Foley, 39, was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison announced Tuesday.


Foley has a history of domestic violence involving at least three different victims, including a 2016 domestic violence conviction, according to Ison's office.

Foley was linked to a shooting at a Detroit home on Aug. 4, 2021 in which shots were fired at the home, occupied by several adults and children. Investigators recovered 31 .223 caliber shell casings at the scene.

The house was hit at least 20 times, while a nearby house and two cars were also hit.

On Oct. 9, 2021, 10 shell casings from a 9-mm gun that were fired at a home.

In both shootings, officials said, the intended target was Foley's girlfriend.

Foley was arrested on Oct. 24, 2021 by Warren police officers, who found a loaded Diamondback .223 caliber rifle with a drum magazine and a loaded Smith & Wesson 9-mm semiautomatic pistol from his vehicle.

A firearms examiner determined that the guns were the weapons used in the shootings, officials said.

"This defendant used firearms and a hail of bullets to terrorize a neighborhood and numerous citizens, including two small children," Ison said.

Foley's prior felony convictions include carrying concealed weapons, felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute cocaine base, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle.
