(WWJ) — A Detroit man has been charged with sexually raping a woman and assaulting her children at a Royal Oak Township motel last weekend.

Jacob Macklis, 23, was arraigned on numerous charges — including first-degree criminal sexual conduct and third-degree child abuse — stemming from an alleged incident at the American Inn in Royal Oak Twp. on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office says Macklis bit off part of a 35-year-old woman’s ear and punched her in the face in front of police.

“The level of violence in this case is shocking,” Prosecutor Karen McDonald said, per a press release. “My heart goes out to this woman and her children for what they had to endure. My office will pursue the maximum charges against this defendant because his victims deserve justice.”

Police were called to the motel on Saturday after getting reports of a woman and children screaming for help, according to the prosecutor’s office.

When Michigan State Police showed up, they found Macklis holding the woman by her hair. He then allegedly punched her in the face.

Further investigations revealed Macklis allegedly physically and sexually assaulted the woman, including biting off part of her ear. While prosecutors say Macklis physically assaulted the woman’s two minor children, no further details were released.

In all, Macklis has been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to maim, assault by strangulation, felonious assault, two counts of third-degree child abuse and domestic violence.

The CSC charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, while each assault charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The child abuse charges carry a penalty of up to two years in prison and the domestic violence charge is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 93 days in jail.

The prosecutor’s office did not release Macklis’ next court date.
