Detroit man charged with fatal shooting of girlfriend

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit man was arraigned Thursday on multiple felonies in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.

Detroit police officers were called to a home on the 9300 block of Birwood Avenue at 2:14 a.m. on July 6 for a “reported unknown problem.” Officers found 49-year-old Latoya Reeves, of Detroit, lying in the hallway, according to a press release. She had a gunshot wound to the chest and right hand.

Reeves was transported to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged 69-year-old Keith Custer with one count each of first degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition, along with three counts of felony firearm.

He was remanded to jail during his arraignment. The probable cause conference is scheduled for July 20 and the preliminary exam is scheduled for July 27.
