DETROIT (WWJ) – A Detroit man has been charged with murder in connection with an early morning gas station argument that escalated to gunfire.

Ricardo Williams, 34, was arraigned over the weekend on charges of first-degree murder and felony firearm for the death of Desmond Nelson of Detroit, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday.

Detroit police were called to the BP gas station at the corner of McNichols and Greenfield on the city’s northwest side around 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 23.

When officers showed up they found Nelson, 32, lying on the ground with a shot to his chest. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities say Williams and Nelson had allegedly gotten into an argument and when things escalated, Williams allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him, before running away.

Police officials have not said what led to the alleged argument between Williams and Nelson.

Detroit police arrested Williams last Wednesday and he was arraigned Saturday. He was remanded to jail. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 21.
