WARREN (WWJ) — A Detroit man is facing felony charges for allegedly running over a Warren police officer's foot while trying to flee a traffic stop.

Romero Austin-Folson, 27, was arraigned Monday on one count of third-degree fleeing police and two counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office says Warren police officers pulled Austin-Folson over on Saturday because he was driving without a license plate.

While he pulled over at first, Austin-Folson "soon refused police commands," according to the prosecutor's office.

He then drove away, "striking the foot of an officer," the prosecutor's office said. Austin-Folson eventually stopped and officers arrested him.

Authorities say a separate officer responding was hit by another vehicle on their way to the scene. The officer was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

"This arrest serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Warren Police Department to pursue those who attempt to evade accountability," Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said, per a press release.

Austin-Folson's bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety and his next court date has been scheduled for March 26.

If convicted, Austin-Folson could face up to five years in prison for the fleeing charge, while the charge of assaulting/resisting/obstructing carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.
