DETROIT (WWJ) — A Detroit man has been charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse in connection with his infant daughter's death last summer.
Prosecutors allege that 24-year-old Charles Evans assaulted his nine-month-old daughter, Kinsley Evans, the morning of June 26.
First responders took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Evans was arrested on Saturday after Detroit police investigators spent nearly eight months looking into the girl's death.
While the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault that led to the infant's death have not been disclosed, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy called the case "unbelievably tragic."
"Baby Kinsley lived a very short life of pain. The alleged facts are unbelievably tragic in this case. The injuries inflicted on this nine-month-old baby are too numerous to fathom," Worthy said, per a press release.
Worthy says "more complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court" at his preliminary examination, scheduled for early April.
Evans was arraigned on Sunday and remanded to jail. His next court date is scheduled for March 27.
