DETROIT (WWJ) -- A young Detroit man is facing potential life in prison, charged in the deadly shooting of his girlfriend, and the wounding of their 3-year-old son.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday announced seven felony counts against 22-year-old Virgil Dan Brown, including first degree murder, in connection with the double shooting the morning of Thursday, May 30.
Just before 7 a.m., police said Brown got in an argument with his girlfriend, 19-year-old Jevon Miller, at their home in the area of Whitcomb and Tireman, near Greenfield, on the city's west side. When the fight escalated, it's alleged pulled a gun and fatally shot her at their home in the area of Whitcomb and Tireman, near Greenfield, on the city's west side.
The couple's 3-year-old son was also injured by a bullet, officials said.
A person familiar with the case told WWJ that the bullet went through the mother and hit the child, although that detail was not immediately confirmed by authorities.
According to the prosecutor's office, the little boy remained in the hospital as of Wednesday, where he's still being treated for a gunshot wound to the neck, but he is expected to survive.
The charges against Brown are as follows: First-Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, Second-Degree Child Abuse, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and three counts of Felony Firearm.
Brown was arraigned in in 36th District Court on Sunday and was remanded to jail without bond.
His next court appearance is a probable cause conference set for June 10.
