DETROIT (WWJ) A Detroit man has been charged with Second Degree Murder and other crimes in connection to the killing of another Detroit man and the non-fatal shootings of four more people during a fight on the city's west side.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Charles Deandre Carter, 47 of Detroit, with Second-Degree Murder, four counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, and Five Counts of Felony Firearm.

Prosecutors said officers were called to a home on Ohio Street, in the area of Wyoming and McNichols, on Monday (5/20) for a reported shooting. When they arrived; they found Luzell Etheridge, 46 of Detroit, lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was dead when officers arrived, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, Carter got into a "verbal altercation" with Etheridge and the four additional victims, pulled out a handgun and fired— killing Etheridge and injuring the others: a 49-year-old Eastpointe woman, a 31-year-old Southfield man; and a 31-year-old woman and 56 year-old man, both of Detroit.

It's unclear how he knew the victims or what led up to the fight. The extent of the injuries for the surviving victims has not been disclosed.

Carter was arraigned on Wednesday (5/22) and remanded to jail. He is due back in court on May 29th, and again on June 4th.
