(WWJ) – A Detroit man has been ordered to spend the rest of his life behind bars after being found guilty of a triple shooting that left two people dead and another injured in April 2021.
Stanley Garner, 57, learned his sentence Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court. Last month he was found guilty of first- and second-degree murder.
Authorities say Garner had been invited into a home on Ward Avenue on Detroit's west side on April 7, 2021. Once inside, Garner was confronted by a man and he started shooting, according to a press release from Attorney General Dana Nessel's office.
Men ages 22 and 24 were killed, while a 43-year-old man was injured in the shooting, according to previous reports.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office referred the case to the AG's office.
"When our Department is called upon to aid county prosecutors with their often-overwhelming caseloads, I am grateful we are able to provide the support and services to ensure justice is delivered," Nessel said at the time of the verdict.
In addition to the murder charges, Garner was found guilty of one count of attempted murder, one count of felon in possession and four counts of felony firearm. Officials did not release any information about Garner's prior felony conviction.
