DETROIT (WWJ) -- The judge in a case against a Detroit man accused of burning and torturing a raccoon says he will go above the sentencing guidelines.
Henry Montgomery, 38, on Thursday pled guilty to one count of third degree abusing and torturing animals.
The judge said he will sentence Montgomery to 18 months of probation -- higher than the sentencing guidelines of 0 to 11 months.
He must not own any pets while on probation, complete 80 hours of community service, pay fines and costs and take an animal protection class.
According to investigators, at around 10:45 a.m. on June 17, Montgomery burned a raccoon alive at a home on Washburn Street, near W. Grand River Ave. on Detroit's west side.
After Montgomery put a video of the incident out on social media, the Detroit Police Department begin investigating, leading to Montgomery's arrest.
Montgomery will be sentenced in October.
