DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 48-year-old Detroit man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing an ambulance while paramedics were inside an apartment complex treating a patient.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Friday announced the case against Eddie D. Carroll following his arrest by local and state authorities.
At around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Highland Park police officers responded to a report of an auto theft in progress at an apartment building in the 14200 block of Second Ave., in the area of Woodward Ave. and Manchester Pkwy.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with EMS paramedics who reported that their emergency vehicle had been taken while they were actively tending to a patient inside the building.
A coordinated investigation by the Highland Park Police Department and the Michigan State Police quickly led authorities to Carroll. Officers located and arrested him a short time later near the intersection of Grand River Avenue and Temple Street in Detroit.
Carroll has been formally charged with unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and fourth-degree fleeing and eluding.
During his arraignment in 30th District Court, Carroll was given a $25,000 cash/surety bond. His next court appearance, a probable cause conference, is set for Sept. 15.
