Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield raised the Pride Flag in Spirit Plaza on Wednesday, and then spoke at a ceremony marking Pride Month.
This comes ahead of the annual Motor City Pride Festival and Parade happening this weekend, June 6-7, on the Detroit Riverfront.
Sheffield said the Pride Flag "represents courage, represents progress, and the generations of advocates and community members who fought ,and continue to fight for equality, dignity, and justice for the LGBTQ+ community."
