DETROIT (WWJ) — ‘Tis the season for porch pirates.

Detroit police are asking for tips from the public identifying a man who allegedly stole several packages from a neighborhood on the city’s west side last weekend.

It happened on Saturday, Nov. 23 along Grandmont Avenue, near Schoolcraft Road and the Southfield Freeway, according to Detroit police officials.

That afternoon, the suspect walked onto the porches of several homes that had packages on them. He knocked on the doors and rang the doorbells, and if no one answered, he stole the packages and fled the scene.

At least one home’s doorbell camera captured the suspect, a young Black male with locs. He was wearing a dark sweatshirt, a gray winter hat and gray pants.

Officials did not say how many packages the suspect allegedly stole or what was in the packages.

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or knows something about the alleged thefts to call the Detroit Police Department’s 8th Precinct at 313-596-5840.
