DETROIT (WWJ) Detroit Police Chief James White has tested positive for COVID-19, the department said.
According to a statement from Detroit Police, White is fully vaccinated with two boosters and is experiencing "only minor symptoms."
He will quarantine, but continue to work remotely remaining in "command and control" of the Detroit Police Department and its staff.
Assistant Chief David LaValley will oversee day-to-day operations until Chief White returns to in-person work.
"We sincerely appreciate the the community's well wishes as Chief White continues to carry out the full duties of his office while in isolation," the statement said.

"Recently, Chief of Police James E. White tested positive for COVID. Chief White is fully vaccinated and twice boosted and is only experiencing mild symptoms. He will isolate but remains in command and control of the Detroit Police Department and its personnel. Per standard protocol, ordinary day-to-day operations will be overseen by designated members of the Department's Senior Management Team. Currently, Assistant Chief David LeValley assumes that role, until Chief White returns. We sincerely appreciate the community's well wishes as Chief White continues to carry out the full duties of his office while in isolation."
