DETROIT (WWJ) — Two people are dead and a man has been detained in what appears to be a case of self defense following a shooting on Detroit's east side Thursday morning.
Detroit police officials say a man was shot and killed following some type of argument with another man around 11 a.m. on Bewick Street, near Mack and McClelland.
Detroit police officials say that another man in his 40s, who is a CPL holder then fired at the shooter, hitting and killing him. He was detained and remains in custody, but it is not yet clear whether he will be released or if he may face any charges.
Police have not released the identities of the men who were killed, but officials say one was in his 20s and the other in his 30s.
Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison told reporters near the scene the department will be stepping up efforts after this shooting -- which is just the latest in a rash of gun violence this summer.
"I'm stepping it up. You will see stepped up enforcement from local, from state and -- for individuals who are involved in gang violence -- we're coming after them too," Bettison said.
