DETROIT (WWJ) – The search is on for a pair of men who tried to jump a Detroit police officer and take his gun at a gas station on the city’s west side late Saturday afternoon.

Detroit police officials say the off-duty officer was in full uniform around 5:30 p.m. and on his way to work a detail at the Taylor Swift concert downtown.

The men attacked him at a BP gas station on the corner of Joy and Southfield as he was inside making a purchase.

The suspects wrestled the officer’s gun away, but he was able to get it back. The suspects fled the scene and no shots were fired.

Detroit police shared photos of the suspects, who Chief James White described as young, African-American men. They are considered to be armed and dangerous.

White said it is “highly recommended” the suspects turn themselves in.

There is a $5,000 reward through DetroitRewards.TV for tips that lead to their arrest.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has any information on the alleged attack is asked to call 313-596-6110 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
