DETROIT (WWJ) – The Detroit Police Department found the 27-year-old man who they said kidnapped his girlfriend's young child Tuesday night.
After safely recovering the kidnapped child at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Detroit Police said the suspect, Shawn Shorts, was on the run, but about an hour later they reported that they found and arrested him.
Shorts allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and then took her 3-year-old child in the 9100 block of Minock -- in the area of Evergreen and Joy Roads on the city's west side.
The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
Authorities released a picture of Shorts on Tuesday night.
Police did not say whether the child was a boy or a girl.
