Detroit police searching for suspect who shot man near Livernois and McNichols

The shooting happened on May 5 on the city's west side.

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The search is on for a man who Detroit police say fatally shot a 46-year-old man on the city's west side last week.

Authorities say shortly before 12:30 p.m. on May 5 an unknown male suspect fired multiple gunshots at the victim in the 16800 block of Livernois Avenue, near McNichols Road, before fleeing on foot in an unknown location.


It's unclear what led to the gunfire.

Police say the victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Police describe the suspect as a black male with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black face mask, clear gloves, a dark-colored Adidas zip-up hooded jacket, dark-colored pants and light colored gym shoes, and armed with a black handgun.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the suspect. Authorities have released two surveillance videos near the scene of the shooting, one showing the suspect inside a local business, and the other showing the man firing shots before running away.
