(WWJ) - Detroit ranked low on a list of more than 180 cities across the U.S. as one of the worst places to 'Staycation' in 2022, personal-finance website WalletHub released on Wednesday.

Detroit placed #139 on 2022’s Best & Worst Cities for Staycations, while cities like Fayetteville, NC, Oakland, CA and Charleston, WV ranked slightly higher.

Honolulu, HI, Orlando, FL and Chicago, IL took the top three spots for Best Cities for Staycations. The worst spot was also on the island paradise of Oah'u, Pearl City, HI, followed by Moreno Valley, CA and Chula Vista, CA.

WalletHub said the data was complied from 44 key indicators that ranged from "parks per capita to restaurant-meal costs to the share of residents who are vaccinated."

The website said almost 30% of Americans plan to stay home for vacations in 2022 and budget-friendly entertainment options like low cost or fee-free entry into museums, gardens, parks, zoos and aquariums were taken into consideration.

“Any time of year is good to explore; however, many families and couples choose to take a staycation during summer when demand for overnight travel and costs peak," Neville Bhada, Founder & CEO, Applied Strategies and Principles, Tourism Skills Group, said via WalletHub. "Staycations during the warmer months allow families to enjoy the local flavor without repeatedly having to fill up the gas tank or pay a premium to fly."

This comes not a day after WalletHub ranked Detroit the worst place in the U.S. to raise a family.
