
DETROIT (WWJ) -- An assistant principal at Detroit arts school has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a child in Macomb County.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office on Thursday announced its case against 54-year-old Jerome Younger, of Roseville, who is the assistant principal of Edward ‘Duke’ Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art at Beckham Academy, a PK-8 school specializing in performing arts.
Younger was arraigned in 39th District Court on Oct. 9 on two counts: First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (Relationship), a life felony, and Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (Relationship), a 15-year felony.
According to the prosecutor's office, the alleged assault on a minor child happened on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
It's unclear whether the victim was a student. Further details were not released.
"The allegations in this case represent some of the most serious offenses under Michigan law,” said Prosecutor Pete Lucido, in a statement. “Our office remains committed to pursuing justice for victims of sexual violence and ensuring the safety of our community.”
Younger’s bond at $250,000 cash/surety 10%. If he's released, he is ordered to wear a steel-cuff tether and have no contact with the complainant.
Younger's next scheduled court appearance is a Probable Cause Conference set for Wednesday, Oct. 22, to be followed by a Preliminary Exam on Oct. 29.
