DETROIT (WWJ) — Detroit Public Schools Community District officials put out a warning Friday reminding the public that district school buildings and grounds are strictly off-limits to unauthorized entry, exploration, and filming.
District security cameras recently captured people outside of the Catherine C. Blackwell Institute on the city's east side who were described as "urban explorers."
Officials emphasized that buildings appearing vacant are not open for entry and warned that unauthorized access puts individuals at risk while diverting district resources away from serving students and schools.
The district urged the public not to enter school properties, attempt to open secured doors, or encourage others to trespass for social media content.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity at a DPSCD property is asked to report it to district law enforcement at (313) 748-6000 without approaching or confronting the individuals.
