A child, 10, and three adults were shot Friday evening while walking out of a home on Detroit’s eastside.

“A little before 6 o’clock, at the 3700 block of Haverhill we had four individuals that were exiting the location when an unknown vehicle pulled up and the suspect began firing shots, striking four viictims” Assistant Chief Kari Sloan said while investigators worked at the scene.

The victims were a man and woman each 40 years old, a male in his 20s and a ten year old child.

“The female victim is very critical at this point, the others are expected to be okay,” Sloan said.

The woman who was shot is the child’s mother and the other victims are relatives, according to Sloan.

Police were working to determine more about a suspect and the vehicle.

“There were multiple shots that were fired and we’ve also recovered a weapon on the scene,” Sloan said.

Detectives were working to determine what happened previously that may have led to the shooting.

“Our thoughts are with her and her family at this difficult time as we pray for her recovery,” Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield said about the woman who was shot in a statement Friday night. “The youngest victim, who by the grace of God was not seriously injured, is a 10-year-old boy.”

“This senseless and indiscriminate violence should never reach a young child and will not be tolerated,” the statement said, adding “DPD will find those responsible for this heinous crime and we will ensure justice is served.”
