Detroit street flooded after car crashes into fire hydrant

Detroit neighborhood flooded after crash

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Water was flowing like a river through an east side Detroit neighborhood Tuesday morning, after a car crashed into a fire hydrant.

Officials said the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. near 7 Mile Rd. and Hasse.

Detroit Police said driver lost control of a vehicle and then hit the hydrant, sending water rushing into the street.

Police and water department crews responded to the scene, working to assess the damage and deal with the flooding.

There’s no word yet on any injuries connected to the crash, or what may have caused the driver to lose control.

Video by WWJ's Charlie Langton showed several inches of water over the roadway, later in the morning.

The public is urged to continue to avoid the area.
