DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit teen is facing a total of ten felony counts after authorities say he opened fire into a crowd last Friday, wounding two people.
The 15-year-old defendant has not been charged as an adult but is "adult designated," according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. This means, if he's convicted, the judge could choose to sentence him as a juvenile, as an adult, or he could get a blended sentence.
The judge has the option of imposing an adult sentence later on if the teen is convicted, sentenced as a juvenile, and is not rehabilitated, the WCPO said.
Authorities said the shooting happened at around 8:15 p.m. on May 31, in the area of Robson Street, near Lyndon Street, on the west side,
According to prosecutors, the victims were walking around Robson with some other people, when the defendant pulled a handgun and fired multiple times into the crowd, wounding a 15-year-old Detroit boy and a 16-year-old Detroit boy.
Police were called and the wounded teens waited as a home on Lauder Street. EMS responded and they were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect was arrested following an investigation by Detroit Police.
He has been formally charged with five counts of Assault with Intent to Murder and five counts of Felony Firearm, although his name is still being withheld due to his juvenile status.
A preliminary hearing was held on Thursday, and the teen's bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. He will be back in court for a preliminary exam scheduled for June 17.
