(WWJ) — A young Detroit man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing three family members, including an 11-year-old girl, at a Dearborn hotel last weekend.

Hamzeh Mohammad Salama, 19, was arraigned Monday on three counts of attempted murder, three counts of felonious assault and one count of domestic violence.

The charges stem from an alleged attack on his family at the WoodSpring Suites, an extended stay hotel near the Fairlane Town Center, near the Southfield Freeway and Ford Road.

It all unfolded around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12 when Dearborn police responded to 911 calls about screaming at the hotel.

When officers showed up, they found a 51-year-old man, a 42-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl in the hotel lobby who had all been stabbed. While officials said they were all family members, they didn't specify how they are related.

The three victims were taken to hospital for treatment. They were all expected to survive.

Authorities say Salama stabbed his family members with a knife multiple times. While he has been charged with domestic violence, and exact motive behind the alleged attack is unclear.

"This case is yet another example of intra family violence that permeates American society today," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, per a press release. "It is almost always hard to fathom and accept, but unfortunately, it happens and happens often. We must be vigilant, pay attention, and use every tool in our toolbox to heighten this issue and our response to it."

Salama's bond was set at $300,000 cash/surety. His next court date has been scheduled for Jan. 22.
