DETROIT (WWJ) A shooting on Detroit's east side left a teen girl hospitalized.

Detroit Police said the gunfire broke out when the 15-year-old and another teen girl went to the park to have a fight. It happened on Wednesday, August 27, around 6 p.m., in the area of Schoenherr and East State Fair.

The 15-year-old girl is hospitalized in temporary serious condition, police said.

Authorities told WWJ that many questions remain including who brought the gun and who fired the shot.

Police said officers detained two "minors" as witnesses, but their involvement in the shooting remains under investigation.

This comes amid an uptick in teen violence across the city this summer.

Deputy Chief Arnold Williams said: "All (of the violent incidents) come down to one common denominator: self regulation. Children... shouldn't be bringing guns to fights. They shouldn't be fighting. They should be talking."
