DETROIT (WWJ) -- Mayor Mike Duggan has outlined a plan for the Detroit to spend millions of federal dollars that the city will receive as a result of the American Recovery Act.
Detroit is set to receive $826 million dollars over the net two years
In the first of 25 community meetings to outline plans for the money and receive community input, the mayor said the city needs to put $400 dollars in reserve to protect against future layoffs and loss of income tax dollars.
That leaves $426 million to spend in the next three years.
One proposal outlined would put $100 million to fight intergenerational poverty, another $100 million to restore neighborhoods and another $100 million to help parks, recreation and cultural facilities.
Another $100 million would be used to improve public safety and reduce the digital divide while $26 million would assist small businesses.

The Mayor will be asking if more or less should be spent for those ideas.
Detroit is receiving the 5th largest amount of any city in America, behind only New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia.
