TROY (WWJ) — A Detroit woman has been arrested after allegedly hitting a street sign in Troy with her SUV while she was drunk earlier this month.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 in the area of Big Beaver and Rochester Roads, Troy police officials said Thursday.
Officers were called to the area after getting reports that someone had hit a sign. When they showed up, they found a 2007 Lincoln Navigator with heavy front-end damage driving west on Hartland toward Livernois.
Officers pulled the 40-year-old woman over and when they talked to her, they noticed she appeared confused and smelled like alcohol.
Officials say the woman initially denied being involved in a crash, but later admitted that she hit something but failed to stop “because she did not think the crash was that bad.”
After failing a series of field sobriety tests, the woman blew a .21% BAC on a preliminary breath test. She was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up Facility, where she was read her chemical test rights and refused to take a breath test.
Authorities got a search warrant to draw her blood for a chemical test. Officials said the case has been turned over to the Troy Police Department Detective Bureau, which would determine appropriate warrants.
Officials did not release the woman’s name or the charges she will face.
