Detroit woman faces charges, accused of 'unprovoked' attack on 10-year-old girl at food court at Somerset mall

Police said video confirmed the suspect shoved the child's head into a glass display case

TROY (WWJ) -- A Detroit woman is facing an assault charge after it's alleged she attacked a little girl at the Somerset Collection in Troy.

According to Troy Police, the alleged assault happened last Friday, as the man who reported the incident was walking through the food court with his daughter and a group of her friends.

The dad told police a woman they didn't know grabbed onto the 10-year-old victim's head and slammed it into a glass display case.

"The attack appeared unprovoked and for no apparent reason," according to the police report.

The child told officers that the woman laughed and smiled after shoving her, and police said surveillance footage confirmed the story.

Upon further investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect as a 25-year-old woman from Detroit.

Police said the suspect had already left the mall by the time the incident was reported, but she was arrested when she went back to Somerset the next day.

The woman's name was not immediately released.
