Detroit woman charged with attempted murder for alleged road rage stabbing on the side of I-96

DETROIT (WWJ) – A Detroit woman is looking at attempted murder and other charges for an alleged road rage-induced stabbing on a Detroit freeway last month.

Jasmyn Bailey, 34, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault. Bond was set at $100,000.

The charges stem from a road rage incident on a Detroit street that spilled onto I-96 on Nov. 30.

Around 3 p.m. that Thursday afternoon Michigan State Police responded to the westbound express lanes of the freeway under the Southfield Freeway after getting calls of an assault in progress on the side of the freeway.

As troopers were on their way to the scene, callers told dispatchers that one of the people involved in the incident had stabbed the other, MSP officials said previously.

When troopers showed up, the woman was "bleeding profusely" from her left arm due to a stab wound, MSP officials said at the time. She was taken to the hospital.

Officials said the initial road rage happened somewhere off the freeway, but did not say exactly where. Eventually, the victim pulled over on I-96 near the Southfield overpass and the suspect, since identified as Bailey, pulled in front of her and got out.

The two women then got into an argument on the side of the freeway and it eventually turned physical, with Bailey allegedly stabbing the victim.

No other details surrounding the incident have been released, but MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw on Tuesday said "technology and good police work" helped detectives solve the case "with little information from the original scene."

"I am proud of their continued effort to bring this suspect to justice," Shaw said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Bailey's next court date was not released.
