DETROIT (WWJ) -- For the second year in a row -- and just in time to host the NFL Draft -- Detroit’s Campus Martius Park has grabbed the top honor in a USA Today readers' poll.

The park was ranked No. 1 on the list of Best Public Squares in America according to USA Today's 2024 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

“Campus Martius Park serves as Detroit’s gathering place, where locals and visitors alike can come to take in the skyline views, people-watch around the Woodward Fountain, grab a meal from a food truck, or go ice skating in winter,” the 10Best website writes.

First opening in 2004, Campus Martius Park has helped transform the Motor City's downtown area, and now hosts millions of people each year from Detroit and across the world.

Great restaurants, bustling businesses, and annual programming such as the Christmas tree lighting and ice skating rink, the Beach at Campus Martius, and the Detroit Jazz Festival are just few of the reasons to visit the city center.

Some of the other cities that appeared on the 10Best Top Public Squares list this year included The Square in Oxford, MS, Market Square in Knoxville, TN, Old Town Square in Fort Collins, CO and Centerway Square in Corning, NY.

Beginning next week, the spotlight will shine bright on Campus Martius Park, as well as various other areas of Downtown Detroit like Hart Plaza and Grand Circus Park, as the NFL Draft comes to town from April 25 - April 27.
